Corn Hole Tournament Results!

I think I am still in shock over how well everything went on Sunday.  Let's just say between the excitement of the day, pure exhaustion, and seeing God's provision, I was unable to even make myself a sandwich when it was all over!
The weather was great (no rain--which was an answer to prayer!), there were about 80 folks (family and friends from all walks of life) that came out, the food was delicious, the games were exciting...it was just all around a perfect afternoon.  And it wouldn't have been so great without all of your support!
Special thanks to all of you who brought food, donated raffle prizes, set up tables, just came for support, cleaned up, made brackets, played cornhole, bought raffle tickets...well, you get the point; I guess I'm thanking all of you! ;)

Now, here is the run down of the days events....

About 128 raffle tickets were sold!
Thanks for participating.

Awesome raffle baskets (thanks to everyone who donated and helped put them together).

The delicious food.
Need I say more?

The final round.
The Corny Kings vs. Team Ramrod

Team "On Fire" (winners of the best team name/uniform/etc. prize)
Jake giving rules with Mr. Parham helping demonstrate.

The tournament results:
1st--The Corny Kings
2nd--Team Ramrod
3rd--L.A. Baggers and Team Elite
And now the moment you've all been waiting for....how much money was raised??  Well, I am pleased to announce that because of all of you that participated, prayed, and a sweet family that matched the tournaments earnings, we were able to raise.............
$2,582.06
(Insert thunderous applause!)

We are so humbled at how God provides through such wonderful friends and family.  It's so cool to see everyone come together on something like this and make what seems impossibility a reality.
Y'all are incredible and to God be the glory!

Thank you thank you thank you!
We are so blessed!

One More Day, Reminders and Thanks

This is what you get when you ask a two year old boy to hold out a sign so you can take a picture....

Look at the camera...

Ok, now with a happy face...

(Asher abandons sign to see picture of himself)

"I don't get it..."

"What does this say?"

"I'd rather wear it like a hat!"

Me:  Hold it out in front of you.
Asher:  Like this?
Me:  Close enough.

His favorite thing to do with paper.

"It's flying like a plane!"

"Set, ready JUMP!"

"Dear Lord, thank you for this piece of paper..."

Ok.  You get the point.  Tomorrow is the big day!
But a few things to remember....
If you want to stick around after the games are over (and I hope you can), bring your own picnic dinner.  We will have snacks and drinks for you to enjoy throughout the afternoon, but you are on your own for real food ;)
Also, don't forget, there is a $15 iTunes gift card to each member of the team with the best team name/uniform/spirit/etc.  There will be secret judges all around, so come out looking/acting your best!  I think there's some ideas already a brewin' out there.  Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!
If there's something else I've forgotten, it must not be that important!  (Or I'm just losing my mind, which could be a possibility too.)

And now for the final raffle basket announcement!  This one is for all you townies and hipsters out there who love Athens, GA.

Basket de Athens:
Complete with a $15 gift card to White Tiger,
an I Love Athens t-shirt, a Grit cookbook,
Jittery Joe's coffee, and maybe some other treats!

I'm going to go ahead and give an advance thanks to everyone who has helped pull this thing off!  I'm humbled and feel very blessed to have all of you supporting us in all kinds of ways!  Y'all are great!
It really does take a village....

"I thank my God every time I remember you.
In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy
because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion
until the day of Christ Jesus."

Two More Days and Look for the Sign

I think she's excited about the tournament!

Uh, Asher...can't you read yet?  Two. days.  It says it right there.

Well I took a break yesterday (except for blogging about the tournament).  And today I haven't accomplished much, but I am going to start working on some signage to put up so you don't miss the turn to get to the Goff Farm!  Price Mill Road will sneak up on you, so once you get into Bishop start looking for a place called Crossroad's Consignment (on the right if you are coming from Athens/Watkinsville) and you will see a big sign right before the store that says, "Corn Hole Tournament This Way" (or something like that).  Right past that will be Price Mill Road (once again, on the right if you are coming from Athens/Watkinsville).  Then once on Price Mill start looking for another sign in front of the drive way.

Now for the moment you've all been waiting for....the unveiling of our 5th raffle basket (or in this case, a bucket....hummm, interesting....what could it be....)

Lowes Bucket:
Filled with a tarp, utility knife, power strip,
Kobalt stainless steel scissors, smoke/fire alarm, 10 foot tape measurer,
pack of AA batteries, and a $50 gift card

Wow!  Or as Asher would say, "Wowsers!"  One more basket to be announced tomorrow (and it's a fun one too...of course) and then the next day will be your chance to play and try to win these incredible raffles.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or Jake.  And again, consult our first Corn Hole Tournament blog for all the details (for directions/times/etc.)

3 More Days and the Government Shut Down

My first child and the beloved Little Bill!

There's been an uproar about the government shut down.  Now I'm not so smart when it comes politics and governmental issues (that was the class I always made a C in in school), but if it interferes with my child coming home to us from Ethiopia, then I'm gonna start getting a little bit concerned!  As you may have read in a recent post, the Ethiopian government has been shut down for about a month or so and will resume in a couple weeks.  Therefore, no children have been placed in families because paperwork cannot be processed.  So in my head I was thinking Wait a second...their government is coming off of a break, now our government is on break....how are any adoptions going to be processed!!  Thankfully just as I had that thought I received an email from our agency that said it should not affect any adoptions and everything will pick back up once the Ethiopian courts are opened again in a few weeks. Phew!

Now for the unveiling of our fourth raffle basket.....This was one of the favorites from our first corn hole tournament.  So bring your dollas to win:

Chick-fil-A!
Some lovely ladies have pulled together a bag filled with Chick-fil-A goodies,
coupons, and a gift card!

Be sure to refer back to our first blog post about the tournament for all the raffle and tournament details.  Also remember we are going to try to start as close to 3 pm as possible.  So make sure to get there a little before 3 to get signed in.

Keep praying for it not to rain!
Looking forward to seeing you all there--I'm so excited!

Five More Days and Answered Prayers

Five days until the tournament!

Well, I've been on weather.com numerous times in the past 24 hours stressing about the weather.  Yesterday it was looking like it was going to be about 78 degrees and 60% chance of rain.
My heart sunk...What are we going to do?  Do I need a rain plan (the Recreation and Leisure educational background started coming out of me)?  Should we postpone the tournament?
Needless to say, I started to get, as Jake would say, poopy.  (The good thing that came out of my stress was a really clean sink...there was some nasty grime that has been in there for a while, but I scrubbed it right off!)  Then Jake called me out and said there's nothing we can do about it, no need for you to be in a bad mood.  He was right.  (He usually is...)

So I started praying.
Lord, you are in control of the weather.  Please, please let it not rain on Sunday!!

I woke up this morning and checked the weather again (all the while praying that it would not be raining).  To my dismay it was still about 80 degrees and 60% chance of rain.  So what's a girl to do?  Call in the troops to pray!  I already had my prayer warrior grandma praying, then I talked to my good friend, Donna, and asked her to pray.  My mom knew I was concerned about the weather too and I'm sure she said a quick prayer.
After my phone conversation with Donna I got to praying and thinking...Lord, even if it does rain, you will still get the glory.  I can't worry about it.  You are in control of it all! ....but please, it sure would be nice if it didn't rain!
And what do ya know, I checked the weather...and it hadn't changed....Ok Lord, whatever you want...but please change the weather....please!
Then I get home to blog and do some work while the kids sleep (well, at least one of the kids...but that's always another story) and checked the weather....and it had changed!!  The weather was about 80 degrees and 20% chance of rain!!!!
Praise the Lord!!
I keep checking it and it's staying the same.
Thank you Lord!

All that to say, please keep praying for good weather for Sunday!

Now, for the unveiling of the prize for the most creative team name/uniform/team spirit/etc and the next raffle basket!

The winner for the most creative team name, etc, etc, etc. will be receiving their very own...Car!!
Just kidding.
A $15 iTunes gift card!

(Slow clap begins...)
The second raffle basket will be none other than:
A Christmas themed basket complete with
2 ornaments, white lights, a stocking (yes, stuffed with candy!),  and a candle!

Stay tuned for more exciting details!

"Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray not give up
He said: In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men.  And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.'  For some time he refused.  But finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care about men, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!'"
Luke 18:1-5
The Lord hears our prayers!  Keep coming to Him with your pleas.  He'll hear you and answer!
